What is shocking?

Think of shocking like scheduling a routine dentist appointment to get your teeth cleaned.  Although you may brush your teeth daily – sometimes it’s necessary to get a professional dental cleaning and help reach spots you may have missed.

Shocking is the “professional cleaning” of dental waterline maintenance.  The process involves running a strong chemical solution through your waterlines to achieve a bacteria/biofilm-free environment.  Shocking is a crucial step toward keeping your water safe for your patients and for best waterline testing results, we recommend shocking quarterly at a minimum. Some products, however, do require you to shock monthly so be sure to follow the manufacturer’s IFUs. You can find more information on shocking and how to shock here.
